Chiang Kai- Shek: A Man of Virtue

Chiang Kai-Shek was a Chinese political and military leader. He served with Sun Yat-Sen during the 1911 revolution and later became leader of the nationalist government. He opposed the communists and fled to Taiwan , formerly known as Formosa in 1950. Since then, wars between the Peoples Republic of China and Taiwan , Republic of China became common. Fortunately talks between the parties lead to the opening of Taiwan to China and vice versa. Air China charter flight CA1087, which departed from the Beijing Capital Airport and arrived January 29, 2005 in Taipei is a good sign of peace and communication within this two nations after fifty six years.

Chinese Civilization is present for thousands of years. It was only in the Ming Dynasty when they started to allow foreign traders and missionaries in China . Still, they have preserved the values and ethics instilled to them by Confucius, Xunzi Mencius and other Chinese Philosophers and scholars. However, before the fall of the Manchu dynasty, Empress Dowager Tsu Zi allowed her throne to be conquered by the West, particularly England . English traders and politicians are so anxious to get China so that they can ransack its riches and natural treasures. Since then, unequal treaties happened and the effect was definitely negative and against the Chinese Tradition and Social Justice.

Chiang Kai - Shek wrote this one to again relive what China should be. At that time, China , particularly in Shanghai and Beijing was succumbed by western illicit activities like illegal gambling, prostitution, slavery and maladministration of justice. Old folks where now taken for granted and most people are only thinking of themselves and how to make them rich so that other people may be under his whims. Chinese officials also became corrupt and they misinterpreted liberated and they have adopted the misdeeds of the Western culture and they have forgotten their own ancestry…their own culture.

Due to the downfall of the “Imperial Lord” many Chinese loss their sense of identity and solidarity thus, they turn to acts which they think is right. Enterprising Chinese were influenced by the westerners to continue this wrong doings in their country without realizing that their culture is starting to deteriorate.  Chiang Kai Shek, as a virtuous leader, greatly realized his mission to bring back China to its former glory.  He wanted to bring back the simplicity of life, where good habits prevail and there is social order within the community. His ideals and aspirations for China materialized after the Second World War and continue till the present time.

The situation that China experience during their dark years is an example on how culture assimilates another culture and how people accept this one, as if accepting that their culture is inferior for in reality there is no inferior or greater culture. It also an immortal example on how a righteous man should act, there should always be Love and respect for everyone.  Through Chiang Kai Shek’s ideals and his moral courage, the Chinese nation now stands as one of the world’s super powers. Though they were still under the Communist party, we can see some rays of light shining near the window, as if saying, China and Taiwan will be united once more for they have preserved their Culture and Tradition nurtured and developed at the Yangtze River .
