JEONJU: DAY 2

JEONJU: DAY 2
Stop1: JeondongCathedral

The Hanuk where I stayed for a night.
We had a traditional breakfast this morning. It was a simple meal yet I really enjoyed it, I even asked for another bowl of rice.  After that, we went to the old palace grounds near the Jeondong Cathedral. While everybody was assembling at the area, I managed to slip for a while to pray at the famous cathedral. I am a Catholic and since I was a child my grandma will tell me to stop by for a while when every you see a church, if possible enter the shrine and pray. There is also another Filipino belief that whenever you enter a Church for the first time, you should knock three times on the door so that your dream will come true… and actually, I believe that practice…:D

Jaya and I are picture fanatics

Picture picture along the way.
Constructed in the year 1914, the Jeondong Cathedral in Jeonju features the art and décor of a western-styled cathedral. This cathedral is considered to be the largest structure resembling western style and design in the Province of Jeollabuk-do. The cathedral was erected on a granite stone foundation. The ceiling is circular in shape and the area occupied by the cathedral is about 624 square meters.

The exteriors of the cathedral feature red brick walls. This makes for a fabulous sight for the tourists visiting this cathedral. The entrance and the bell tower add more to the glory and charm of this place. The entrance which is an arch-shaped structure resembles somewhat Byzantine architecture. The small bell tower built in the center imparts an exclusive artistic touch and creates an exclusive sight for the visitors.

A portion of the Jeondong Cathedral, Jeonju was demolished when a fire broke out in the year 1988.
Inside the Cathedral
One can board a bus from the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal and reach the Korea National Open University. From that point they can take any of the several city buses heading towards the Nambu Market. They can get off at the Jeondong Cathedral in just about twenty to thirty minutes.

Tourists can also reach the Jeonju Station by train and from there board any of the city buses traveling towards Hotel Riviera. They can get down at the Jeondong Cathedral in about twenty to thirty minutes.

The pristine natural surroundings and the fabulous structure of the Jeondong Cathedral, Jeonju accounted for an apt set for the popular movie “Promise”.
