SAMGYEOPSAL ANYONE?

SAMGYEOPSAL ANYONE?

Pork belly is usually referred to the belly region of a pig. Now, when you think of all the delicious bacon recipes, you know where it comes from. This portion of meat is also much popular among Koreans. You must have often come across Korean Pork Belly recipes as well.
Koreans have a unique way of preparing this cut of meat. If you ever visited Korea, then you must have had the opportunity to try Samgyeopsal, a very popular Korean dish; needless to say, it is prepared from pork belly. It is usually served in the evening time and the preparation style is also quite unique.
The meat is neither seasoned nor marinated. It is directly grilled at the dinner table. The custom is such that those who sit to dine together grill the meat themselves. Then they help themselves with a full serving and relish their recipe over a long sweet conversation.
Samgyeopsal is served with two different kinds of sauces, one of them being a Korean chili paste and the other is based off soybean nicely blended with sesame oil and other ingredients. Other side dishes include onion salad in a typical Korean style, sliced green chili peppers, sliced or finely chopped raw garlic, kimchi, and Soju, a traditional Korean liquor which makes the dinner even more delightful.
Another favorite Korean pork belly recipe is ‘ssam’, which is usually taken during the hot summer months. This recipe comprises grilled pork belly slices and served either with chili marinade or plain and simple. It is usually served on a lettuce leaf, with a serving of rice and a tint of chili paste. Also served along with a few ‘banchan’, this meal is known to be quite refreshing and more than often, the Koreans enjoy it as their communal meal.
Korean pork belly recipes are not quite elaborate by nature. They are simple preparations but at the same time, very nutricious and delicious.
