INCHEON UNIVERSITY
University of Incheon ("UI" in short) is a public university operated by the municipal government of Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea.
UI was first founded as a private college known as the Incheon Technical College in January 1979. Later, it was renamed Incheon College in December 1979 before getting promoted to a comprehensive university in 1988. In 1994, the university was renamed once again to her current name, University of Incheon (UI), which is now a city council funded university. In addition to these changes, UI also relocated from Dohwa-dong in Namgu to a new location in 2009.
Now, UI stands in the new and young international city of Songdo which is also known as the New Songdo City, located in IFEZ (Incheon Free Economic Zone). A year later, in 2010, UI merged with Incheon City College to expand capacity and open more curriculums. With all these changes, it has been confirmed that UI will join the group of national universities in 2010, which is a great advantage in Korea.
The new University complex is so vast with the modern facilities and buildings, Incheon will be the new commercial hub of Korea in the near future. Incheon International Airport is very accessible from this rising metropolis.
See the buildings at the background? Imagine how many skyscrapers will be built in a span of only 5 years.
No doubt, that the new Incheon University complex is conforming with this vision of decongesting Seoul and transforming this city into a world class place to work, live and explore. I wonder how Incheon City looks like 10 or 20 years from now. How about you?
