AT BANWON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Every Saturday, I visit various elementary schools around Seoul to teach korean youngsters the beauty and wonder of the Philippines. The said activity was spearheaded by MIZY Seoul Youth Center for Cultural Exchange in cooperation with the Korea National Commission for UNESCO. For this year, the Tubbataha Reef National Park was selected as the subject. During my discussion, I also incorporate Filipinos who made the Philippines proud here in Korea. Included in the discussion is our 12th President: Fidel V. Ramos. FVR was included the the Philippine Expeditionary Forces in Korea who fought together with other UN volunteer troops during the Korean War. As of now 3 monuments and markers were erected around Korea to commemorate the gallantry of our brave soldiers.

The Uyldong-ri Battle (April 22-23, 1951) was the biggest battle that the Philippines Army fought against the Chinese Army during the Korean War. They defended a position bravely against the offensive attacks of the 34th Division, Chinese Army, in spring at Uyldong-ri, located 5 km. from the north of Yuncheon. They successfully covered the unit located to their right side, allowing them to withdraw from their position to the rear. Afterwards, the Philippines Army evacuated to the rear as the U.N. Forces had commanded. This monument was erected to commemorate the successful battle at Uyldong-ri.
